EFFECT: Magician introduces two Circus
Clowns called “SPOTTY" and “STRIPEY” because of their very distinctive
Dress! Pointing to a very attractive house he says “and they live at number
Again he states the number of the house, but the kiddies shout their
disagreement and once again the number changes! This really FUNNY “BUSINESS” is
repeated ... the kiddies shouting more and more! Further Comedy is now obtained
by the magician apparently forgetting “which is which” and the children yell
their “correction”. Finally, it all gets sorted out to the children's
satisfaction and delight.
On getting it settled, magician sends “STRIPEY” off to the Circus. “ SPOTTY”
stays at home because he’s scared of the Circus Tiger. “Now says the magician,
“I’m going to show you a wonderful trick. I'm going to make the Clowns change
places!” He tells the children the magic word that will “cast a spell” and gets
them to call it out ALOUD. They do so ... and magi says, “That’s wonderful ...
I bet you have done the trick for me.” He goes to the “Circus” and exclaims;
“Yes, the trick is working beautifully,” and shows that “SPOTTY” is now at the
Circus. He goes over to the house, confidently opens the door saying “And here
is STRIPEY.”
The Kiddies yell, “ No it isn’t!” Magician now sees that instead of the
expected “Stripey” ... there is a fearsome looking Tiger! “The magic isn’t
working ... something's gone wrong. Where’s Stripey?” he asks plaintively.
To his surprise the kiddies tell him “ LOOK IN THE CIRCUS !“ they shout. And
they are right too! (How did they know. Ah! that's telling!) All ends happily,
for going to the “Circus” he removes the TWO loveable Clowns . . SPOTTY and
STRIPEY

LOVEY DUCK
BILLY DAY
You show a large, colourful hut, open the door, take out a cut-out Duck, and
say “This is my friend ‘Lovey Duck’, and every morning I take him out for a
walk.”
He returns to his hut, but very quickly SPRINGS UP and out of it - something
has obviously scared him! When the door is opened there, inside the hut,
is a LARGE CAT - Lovey’s arch-enemy ‘Ginger Fish-Whiskers’.
They have a fine old chase around the hut, but ‘Lovey’ escapes and returns to
the hut - but the wicked cat also goes back! When you realise this you
quickly open the door - there is no sign of ‘Lovey, just the Cat!
“Oh dear” you say, “I hope he hasn’t gobbled him up.” But when you
take out the Cat it is seen that the hut is empty!
The kiddies see that you are holding the Cat rather suspiciously. You
surely have something behind it - and they soon TELL YOU SO. NOW follows
a natural “LET’S SEE THE OTHER SIDE” sequence, that ends when you turn
the Cat round, and there, on his back, are painted lots of white
feathers!! He must have been eaten up!!
You open the hut door again ... and there, inside the hut, is a large
Egg.
Removing and holding the Egg, you say that you wish it were Lovey-Duck’
instead, but ... unseen by you ... the EGG OPENS and out peeps
'Lovey-Duck'. Naturally the KIDS YELL OUT, but when YOU turn to look at
the Egg - there is no sign of the Duck!
You can repeat this ‘bit of business’ as many times as you like. Amid
much excitement and laughter - the routine concludes with your re-union
with ‘Lovey-Duck’.

RUN - BONZO - RUN
Bonzo (who is over nine inches high) is a cheeky looking
greedy young pup who likes to hop from his luxurious kennel over to the bone
store for a crafty bone. Every time he pops across in full view - not
just his head, the kids let you know.
Back and forth he goes, always one step ahead of the magician. “Open the
kennel door” yell the kids - but you know the rest. Finally,
Bonzo disappears, only to be found later by the magician.

HOUSE PAINTING
Based on an idea of Edwin Hooper’s, this is a really nice
piece of apparatus which can be used for children or adults. A black and
white wooden house is displayed on a tray. The performer attempts to
paint the house to make it look more colourful. The house is shown empty
and a large wooden tube is placed over it. The tube can be shown right
through. A series of accidents befall the performer as he now attempts to
paint the house. However, finally the tube is lifted off and the house is
now seen to be painted in lovely colours. Obviously, the audience want to
know who lives inside the house ... the house is lifted up and inside is found
a live rabbit (or you could have a clockwork toy or Teddy Bear

SKELETON IN THE CUPBOARD
Everybody has a skeleton in their cupboard - but mark our
words, this skeleton won’t remain in your cupboard for very long, it’s an
entertaining, amusing and mystifying effect that you can and will use and which
will take its place amongst the winners!
A tube, eleven inches high, decorated to look like a cupboard - the cupboard of
a HAUNTED HOUSE - is lifted to show a SKELETON figure painted on three
blocks. The skeleton is replaced correctly in the tube - BUT - in some
eerie and mysterious manner the blocks re-arrange themselves, they get
“scrambled” and when the tube is lifted there is the skeleton -” with his head
tucked underneath his arm”!!!
The fun waxes fast and furious, for this can be repeated again and again.
Finally, the head is taken away altogether and “hidden” underneath a
handkerchief. A flick - and the block has VANISHED to appear in its place
back on the skeleton, in its proper order at last!

KLOWNING KATS
EFFECT: Magician displays a large Top Hat (size lO ins., by
8 ins.) and says that it is the one which he used for his rabbits. But . .
one day, on looking into the hat, he found the rabbits gone and in their place
THREE CATS . . a very well-fed and contented look on their faces! He
introduces them . . “SNOWY” (a white one) . . “SOOTY” (he’s black) and “GINGER”
. . all very handsome, but very mischievous. They are each in turn,
placed into the hat where they pop up and down in a lively manner.
One day, a lovely fishy smell wafted over the breeze, so “Ginger” (he’s very
greedy), pops out to investigate • • magician takes him from the hat and he is
left in full view on the table. He is soon followed by” Sooty”, who is removed
and placed alongside “Ginger”. Magician says that when he later looked in
the hat for “Snowy”, he found that he had “GONE!” To prove it, the hat is
turned upside down to show that it is “empty”. “If you happen to see
‘Snowy’ around sometime, do please let me know . . I’m really very fond of
him,” says the performer. BUT, WHAT’S THIS? - as the magi is talking, the
“missing Snowy” pops up, out of the hat! The audience yell, “there he is”
-but, when magician looks around . . “Snowy”
is NOT there . . he looks into the hat and states quite firmly “Oh, no he’s
NOT!” and once again turns the hat upside down to prove it. “Oh YES HE
IS!” yell the audience . . for while magi is talking . . “Snowy” pops up
again! This “bit of business” repeats as many times as desired each time
the audience gets noisier and more insistent!
Finally . . “Snowy” is taken from the hat and .. SURPRISE! It is something
quite UNEXPECTEDLY DIFFERENT!

THE GIANT DWARF
This effect deals with a dwarf (plainly seen to be 9-ins,
high) who lives in a castle (a square tube suitably decorated, 18-ins. x 8-ins.
x 2-ins.). He is sitting on the top of his castle when a fierce looking
giant (1 high) makes his appearance. U that his house-hunting days are
over, the giant not only says
that he intends to take possession of the castle, but he
is also going to eat the dwarf for his dinner! Upon this the dwarf
suddenly grows to a height of 24-ins, and comes out to meet the giant who,
trembling with fear, dodges the giant-dwarf and runs into the castle to hide.
However, the magic castle causes the giant to shrink and as a climax the giant
becomes even smaller than the dwarf was in the first place. The castle is
shown empty before and after each transformation. The figures are
brightly decorated in seven different colours, designed in true fairy story
tradition and make a showy and colourful effect that, apart from being novel
and different, provides a plot that can be readily appreciated by children of
all ages. Expert children entertainers will readily appreciate the

CAKE IN HAT
A hat is borrowed from the audience, and a baking pan is
passed out for inspection. The magician forgetting the pan is still in the
audience starts to put flour, baking soda, milk etc., into the hat. Finally
setting the hat on fire. Suddenly noticing that the pan is still in the
audience he lets out a scream. He retrieves the pan and slaps it into the hat.
With the owner of the hat thinking his hat is ruined, the magician turns the
hat over, the pan is removed and there is a delicious real cake. The hat is
returned unharmed.

THE UGLY DUCKLING
A large egg is shown to the kiddies and as the story begins
to unfold it hatches and from inside emerges the little Ugly Duckling.
The kiddies will sympathise with him when you tell of the trials and
tribulations which he suffers through his lack of beauty. You tell how he
swims across the pond and then, feeling so lonely and so unhappy, he hides in
the rushes. He is placed behind a stand decorated to represent the pond,
his head showing just over the top. Suddenly the head begins to rise,
higher and higher, the stand suddenly falls over and there is, no longer the
Ugly Duckling, but a Beautiful White Swan. Here is story-magic at its

THE COMEDY CHINESE WASHING MACHINE
Childrens' entertaining is all about ‘business’ - the
comedy bits which go to make a routine really entertaining. Here is an
item which plays for quite a long time but yet is packed full of action and fun.
The classic ‘Lesson In Magic’ wherein a trick using a hanky went completely
wrong has been incorporated into a Chinese Washing Machine. However,
instead of a hanky the problems arise around a pair of socks. A child is
invited to assist the performer in washing the socks. Unfortunately, the socks
get mutilated, shrink, become one long sock etc., - nothing seems to go

MAN IN THE MOON
EFFECT: The “ Man in the Moon” ( a large wooden disc with a
face painted on it), is taken from his home (a prop, made -to look-like a
cloud), and placed in a second box. (This has two doors, and is finished
like a storm cloud.) The magician explains that the idea of the trick is
to “pass” the Man in the Moon back to his former home; it is here that the
almost endless fun starts!
Tipping the box from side to side, and
opening one door at a time, the per former claims that the
Man in the Moon has Vanished! Unfortunately for him, each time the box is
tilted, a DULL THUD is heard! The audience are not slow to tell him that
they want to see both doors opened at the same time. After much fun, they
are finally opened together, and of course, our little friend has
vanished! Picking up the original “home cloud”, the magician boastfully 
announces that the Moon Man has returned home. BUT, upon
opening the door ... Horror of Horrors ... it is seen to be STILL EMPTY!
Something has gone wrong, and the performer starts to “explain”. During the
“explanation” ... the Moon Man peeps over the top of the Cloud which the
performer is holding, and the audience shout out. But every time magician
turns to have a look at what the audience is shouting about, the Moon Man drops
back out of sight! This makes them YELL more than ever. Eventually
he is caught, and another HOWLER comes to an end. It’s great

CLUTTERBUCK is a Comical Duck, dressed as a Clown; a really Lovable character

assistant from the audience is asked to hold a decorative Hoop. Magi says
that he is going to make Clutterbuck vanish from the Tent and jump invisibly,
right through the hoop ... all by magic. The Tent is placed in front of
Clulterbuck ... the magic words are uttered but what’s this? Some very suspicious
movements going on? The Kiddies are not slow in letting him know that
they think something fishy is going on. But, the Magi lifting the Tent, shows
that Clutterbuck is still there. A leg-pull! The Tent is replaced
... the magic words are uttered again ... the Tent is removed and the figure
has vanished. The Kiddies notice that the Tent is being held in a very
peculiar way ... the magician can’t fool them ... the figure is behind the
Tent. They demand to see the other side ... reluctantly giving way to
their demand, the card is turned around to reveal the other side. On it
is printed the word ... “WRONG’ ... Clutterbuck has really VANISHED! He
asks the assistant whether HE knows where the Clown is ... the answer is
naturally "No". "But, he must have jumped through the
Hoop, let’s have a look for him." After a bit of by-play Clutterbuck
is discovered hanging on the boy’s back! Hey! ... half a minute ...

hen-coop, a lovely place called “Lost Feathers” (she was well plucked 
when she bought it!) The Two black villains in the
cats’ home hatch a plot to convert her into a nice chicken dinner. But,
Claudia being more used to hatching, foils them after many amusing “comings and
