MANCHESTER

Circle of Magicians

A brand new magical society has been formed in the Manchester area by knowledgeable and experienced magicians.

It is a magical society with a DIFFERENCE and these are the reasons why:

1. There will be NO COMMITTEE, just Officers who are elected annually by the members.

2. There is NO JOINING FEE, just an annual subscription of £12.00 per year.

3. There are NO RULES, decisions will be made by the members.

4. There is NO AUDITION or INTERVIEW, prospective members will simply be asked if they are seriously interested in magic.

5. If your wife/girlfriend/partner is seriously interested in magic then they too are very welcome on payment of the £10.00 per year subscription.

6. Meetings will be once per month usually on the third Tuesday of the month.

7. The objectives of the Manchester Circle of Magicians are simple and basic....to ENJOY MAGIC, TO HAVE FUN WITHOUT POLITICS, TO MAKE MAGICAL FRIENDS, to LEARN MORE ABOUT MAGIC, TO RECEIVE ENCOURAGEMENT AND ASSISTANCE AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO TRY OUT TRICKS IN FRONT OF A FRIENDLY SUPPORTIVE AUDIENCE. If you are a beginner in magic or an experienced professional you will always receive a warm welcome in a fun atmosphere.

8. What kind of itinerary is planned? In the past months we have had FOUR MINI LECTURES (four experienced magicians each presented a half hour lecture on different subjects), two Jumbo Magical Auctions which were tremendously successful, Allied Arts Night (which covered Fireating, Hypnosis, Juggling, Escapology and Punch and Judy) and Four Dealer Demonstration Night, wherein four prominent Magic Dealers all demonstrated their wares on the same night.  Many, many more exciting and different nights have been organised.  See itinerary at the bottom of this page.  The Manchester Circle of Magicians now has 220 members and is the largest club of its kind in the United Kingdom.  Even if you live out of the Manchester area it is still worthwhile joining at the low fee of £10.00 per year as you will still receive our magazine "The Times" by post every two months and you can keep in touch via our website and e-mail.

All meetings will take place at our fabulous, luxury meeting rooms at the Salford Masonic Hall, (Hemsley House), 41, The Crescent, Salford. We have a private bar, a private car park which is security patrolled and tea and coffee is available. At the end of this letter you will find a map showing you how easy it is to find these premises. They are very close to Salford University, British Rail Crescent Station is a few minutes walk away and the East Lancashire Road, and the M602, M61, M62 and M63 motorways deliver you almost to the door.
Due to our extensive contacts in the magical world we can promise you a very strong programme of Lectures and shows.
Although the official programme will begin at 8.00p.m., every meeting will commence with a fun trick session at 7.30p.m.
This will be organised by a host and will allow members to perform their favourite or non-favourite trick or routine. If you just want to watch that's fine too, there's no pressure to perform.

9. A magic magazine is being produced and is free to all members.

10. If you already belong to another magical society and wish to remain a member of that society that's fine.  We are not in the business of competing with other societies we are interested in just doing our own thing and ENJOYING IT!

11. Let us assure you this is NOT a '10 minute wonder' or a 'flash in the pan'. The Manchester Circle of Magicians is properly financed, solidly backed by very experienced and dedicated magicians and we intend to be around for many years to come.

12. A WEBSITE has been designed www.taurusmagic.net and is now operational.

What have you got to lose ? This really is a golden opportunity to create and mould a new magical society into the kind of organisation YOU WANT. There are NO CLIQUES, NO SNOBS, NO EGO MERCHANTS, NO DICTATORS and NO COMMITTEES what the MEMBERS WANT ...... THE MEMBERS GET.

Further details of the programme will be given to you when you join.

If you are interested in attending please complete the 'Application Form' obtained by clicking on the link below, and return it to Derek Lever as soon as possible.

You can even pay your subscription by Visa or MasterCard.  What could be easier?

Access to our meeting room is at the rear of the building via the car park. Minimum age limit is 16 years of age.

We have already had some fabulous meetings including Lennart Green The World Champion Magician from Sweden.  A Giant Magical Auction and the North West Close-Up Magical Championships.

MANCHESTER CIRCLE OF MAGICIANS JUNIOR SECTION

The junior section of the club will meet at the David Lloyd Centre in Trafford Park, Manchester.  All meetings will be held on the last Friday of each month, except December, unless otherwise notified.  The aim of the section is to encourage younger members to take an interest in Magic and hopefully move on to the senior section on reaching the age of 16 years.  It is intended to have a fun time yet also provide a learning environment, with the group at times helping each other.  Some juniors may just have aspirations to become professionals either full time or part time.  Others may just have an interest to perform to family and friends.  All are welcome.  All sessions will run from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a short break approximately mid session.  There will be a number of adults in attendance to supervise the group and parents are welcome to stay if they wish.  A subscription, that will only partly cover the cost of the hall, will be set at £10.00 per year, payable on joining.  There is a restaurant and lounge close to the meeting room and the Trafford Centre is just across the road.  The centre has a large secure car park that needs a code number to exit.

The juniors will be allowed into the restaurant area to purchase drinks and simple snacks during the break, if required.  An adult has to supervise the juniors when not in the meeting room.  There are toilets close to the club room and visits there will be unsupervised.  No junior will be allowed to leave the Centre without being collected by an adult.

A programme for the section will be developed over the coming months when we get more idea of numbers involved and the range of abilities.  We intend to arrange teach-in sessions, set the member tasks to solve and hold competitions etc.  Also arrange for items to be purchased from dealers from time to time.  A club magazine will be made available and juniors will be allowed to attend the senior section on certain occasions.

The co-ordinator for the junior section is :-

Don George,  16, Addison Road, Hale, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA15 9BQ       Phone: 0161 941 2956

The Centre is located just off the M60 at junction 10 on the same side of the motorway as the Trafford Centre.
